Weekend Online Communication Skills Training for healthcare workers

About this course: This is an introductory live online three-hour course delivered over Zoom. The communication skills course aims to promote the development of empathy, emotional intelligence, and rapport-building – critical components of effective patient care. Through hands-on demonstrations, role plays, and other teaching methods, participants will learn how to use appropriate eye contact, non-verbal cues, and purposeful gestures to strengthen interactions with patients and colleagues. We hope to facilitate experiential learning and will not record the session. So, the registered candidates who do not attend the session will miss the opportunity to learn.

Certificate Eligibility: Soft copy (PDF) certificates will be issued to attendees only.

Facilitators:

Dr. Soumitra S Datta trained in psychiatry from CMC, Vellore and later on in the United Kingdom. He currently heads the department of palliative care and psycho-oncology at Tata Medical Center, Kolkata. Dr Datta won the UCL Teaching Excellence Bursary to develop communication skills training suitable for cancer clinicians in LMICs and has been communication skills trainer for over a decade. He has a dual affiliation with Institute of Clinical Trials and Methodology of the University College London and is a Cochrane reviewer for more than two decades.

Ms. Bhawna Sharma is a psychologist and psychotherapist with over nine years of clinical practice. She has trained at the prestigious Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS, Mumbai) and University of Delhi. Apart from being a clinician, she is also a certified Crew Resource Management (CRM) trainer, having received specialized training from Maersk Training in key human factors for high-risk industries like oil & gas, shipping and healthcare . This internationally recognized program covers critical competencies such as communication, situational awareness, decision-making under pressure, performance-shaping factors, teamwork, and leadership.

Pathways to Resilience: Psychological Care for Children with Cancer Workshop, Chennai on 17th Jan 2025: Dr Soumitra Datta and Ms Rhea Daruvala jointly conducted a “Pathways to Resilience: Psychological Care for Children with Cancer” workshop at the Asia Pacific Psycho-oncology Network Conference in Chennai on 17th Jan 2025. Bincy Mathew joined us as a perfect role player with her experience as a psycho-oncologist and brilliant method acting skills. This workshop shed light on the importance of psychological care in helping children with cancer build resilience and cope with their journey.
