Where is Kolkata

Kolkata is the capital city of the state of West Bengal, in eastern India. The state has international borders with Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and China. The Himalayas in the north make the natural geographical boundary of the state. Historically the place has been a confluence of various cultures and diverse belief systems. Tibetan Buddhism, Hindiusm, Zoroastrianism, Islam, Christianity, Judiaism, Jainism, Aethism and many others found their place in Bengal and coexist side by side peacefully today.

Bhutan, the happiest country in the world, has close cultural ties with the city. In the eastern part of West Bengal is the nation of Bangladesh and that was once part of the undivided Bengal. The Bay of Bengal, in the south of West Bengal, has been the route for various travellers coming to India. Kolkata being a port city was the former capital of British India for many decades. Kolkata continues to be a vibrant city that is still evolving.
